I have gimp 2.4.5 for windows, windows xp, directx9, iv downloaded the .dds plugin for gimp but whenevr i use it it states that the lib file is damaged and that i should re-download. no matter how many times i do it allways says the same. So anyway, ive had to settle with BMP. Two major problems here:
1) Whenever i mod my rangers krytan armour, and every other leather texture armour, only certain pieces of the armour i have selected appear available to mod. And when i viewed the image without GIMP i could see the other armour pieces. Odd?
2) The usual trouble, Metalic texture armour is transparent.
Please help!

BMP has no alpha channel so it will not work. You must properly install and use the .dds plugin if you want to make texmods in the GIMP; there is no way around this. If I had to take a guess, I'd guess that you've tried to install the .dds plugin for GIMP 2.2 into GIMP 2.4 and you need to go get the new version of the plugin.

Thanks for replying, the .dds plugin that i use is this one: http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/ most websites confirm that it works on 2.4.5, if this is wrong could you maybe send me a link for a .dds plugin that your sure is compatible?

Oh wait, i think i found the root of the problem, whenever i open the .dds plugin i get this error message : This application failed to start because lib gimp-2.0-0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Got any clues on what i have to do?

I just upgraded to GIMP 2.4.5 for the sole purpose of figuring out your problem. The .dds plugin is already included in GIMP 2.4.5 natively, so you don't need to install it. (And you should have noticed that when you tried to install the plugin and it prompted you about overwriting the existing file....) You should be able to simply open the .dds files with GIMP 2.4.5 without doing anything special.

Since I have this strange suspicion that you're going to go "OMG I still can't see some parts of the armor," I'm going to tell you to go read this thread before posting again.

Eh? ive been happily using the alpha in BMP for all my mods, no problems so far - its shiney where it needs to be, i can change it, its transparent where it needs to be, I can change that also

Ok, thanks for the help, however it wont let me open .dds files in GIMP, it comes up with the error message i posted above.
